The Russian Service has about 180 staff and a budget of about £ 7.1 million. The output includes TV programmes, audio and all kinds of digital content on the BBC’s own platforms, as well as on several media partners and social media.
We have a new role for a Head of the Russian Service who will report directly to the Head of the Europe and Americas Region and will lead and manage the whole BBC Russian team with overall responsibility over the teams based in London, Moscow and the BBC Russian correspondents around the world.
As the Head of the Russian Service you will be responsible for managing the relationship with all our media partners in Russian and several other countries. An editorial leader of all BBC output in the Russian language you will pursue a broad news agenda and deliver against the targets for audience growth. Equally important is your role to lead the department’s relationship with the local Trades Union representatives and representing management at routine local level meetings.

Are you the right candidate?
Fluent in Russian and English you will need to demonstrate a deep understanding of Russian issues, including politics, economics, culture, social and media affairs. The ability to understand the complexities of operating as a media organization in Russia and find solutions to difficult problems is key as well a demonstrable track record of considerable success in a senior editorial role.
You will bring experience over a range of output from news and current affairs to feature programmes and a flair for making judgments on editorial values including under pressure during international crises.

Salary: £55,343 to £82,822 p.a. (inclusive of all allowances)
